Anyone who has experienced dental implants .......does it hurt?when the do it?

I have implants and love them. I have 8 on top and 6 on the bottom that holds a whole piece bridge that screws to the implants. I had a procedure called "teeth in a day" where they removed all my teeth, placed the implants and then immediately attached my new beautiful teeth. I never was one day without teeth. Pain mainly from having my teeth pulled but not that bad.

The thing about implants is you cannot chew on them anything firmer than baked fish or very soft pasta. I was not permitted to chew for 5 months. Sounds worse than it is. I got quite good at finding things I could just swallow. The reason you are not to chew is that you can interupt the process called osseointegration which means implants bonding to the bone. Eventually the titanium will bond so tightly to the bone that it becomes almost part of the bone. They use titanium in joint replacement too. You cannot tell you have implants in your jaw bone. There is no difference in the feel of these than regular roots to your teeth. The best part of having implants is the security and beauty. I brush my teeth and floss just like natural teeth and to see me talk and smile you would never know I have artifical teeth unless I told you.

I was awake for the whole procedure and it wasn't horrible, certainly not painful as I was numbed up. Sounded weird but kinda fun if you can believe it or not because they were so good to me. I enjoyed seeing my smile after the surgery.

my daughter had one done and they numbed her up so it didn't hurt.
Reply:You should not have any difficulties with implants. They are probably much more easier to deal with it post-operatively (if done properly) than having a tooth pulled!

Your dentist will numb the gum tissue thoroughly before cutting the gum tissue to expose the bone. And then a special drill is used to make a pilot hole and then the implant placed. It is as simple as screwing a screw into drywall. The gum tissue will be sutured up to cut down on bleeding. Your dentist will give you prescriptions for all the necessary medications, which should include an antibiotic and something for pain.

There are few instances where implants can be a complication, such as an infection, or if you are a smoker. Just follow all the guidelines given and you should be fine.
Reply:Here is my experiance with an irregular 'dental implant' - please see that this doesn't happen to you and yours:

Reply:Lasik eye Surgery and Dental Surgery is very safe nowadays. It is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges Eye surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.

I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as obesity surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your eye surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.
