What is the difference between dental implants and mini dental implants?

Wife of the SSG had the first part about regular implants correct but the part about the mini implants incorrect.

Standard implants are strong and will with proper hygene last the patients entire lifetime. Mini implants are much smaller no thicker than a regular toothpick and may need to be replaced at sometime. But advancements are improving mini's everyday.

Mini implants only retain a denture, standard implants can be used to replace individual teeth as well as entire mouth restorations.

I have standard implants that hold a whole piece prosthesis. Beautiful and permanent. I do not remove them to even clean them. But use dental floss, a waterpik and toothbrush.

What is the difference between dental implants and mini dental implants?
My guess is that mini dental implants are partials and the regular implants replace a full set of teeth. Something to chew on, woops I mean chew with. lol
Reply:Hi there.

Well, there is a huge difference and I would honestly ask the dentist what his version is.

Full implant is when a titanium tube like piece, that the tooth connects to, is implanted in your jaw. After that has 'taken' it is uncovered and then the actual porcelain tooth, that has another titanium piece on the inside of it, is then inserted into the tube. The results are fabulous. The implants are so beautiful and you will like them more them more then your actual teeth.

Now, a partial implant is usually referred to as a T-Bar and partial. They are used for people with more definite bone loss. There will only be 2 , possibly 3, titanium tubes implanted into the jaw. When it has healed, it is uncovered and then a titanium bar is place above your gums and will always be seen without your partial. Then the partial, that has a titanium bar embedded it it, well hidden of course, will snap on to the bar.

Both are costly options. The better option, if you have the bone structure to support it, would be the full implants. All options will require the best hygienic care possible or the implants will fail in the end. Brush 3 times a bay and floss one time a day.

Good luck and take care.
