Dental implants?

Has anyone over 65 had dental implants, and if so can you tell me what the treatment was like. It sounds terrible but maybe someone can tell me the reality of how painful it is, how long it took the gums to heal before the teeth were fixed on and how eating was during treatment period. I have been told it takes 3 months between implant and actual tooth fixing. Any info would be helpful and a rough cost per tooth if possible, as I have been getting prices in Spain which seem a lot less than UK dentists.

Dental implants?
I have two implants it takes about two weeks after the "spikes" are inserted for the gums to settle then they put the caps on. Hope you don't drink red wine the caps are a ***** for staining from it.
Reply:Anything from £1500 per tooth, and for so many people they have fallen out after a few years.x
Reply:i know that a lady on holiday in Goa, India..had a tooth implant - and it cost £150 and she was totally happy with it. sorry - cant help with other information though.
Reply:Hi,

The cost of dental implants varies widely. In some cases, insurance will cover at least part of the cost, especially if they're needed due to accident or illness.

Implants are anchored in the jawbone, instead of on neighboring teeth. This makes them more stable and secure and increases strength and comfort. It may also help to reduce or eliminate costly re-fitting and adjustments. Since they incorporate no metal clasps or hooks, they look and feel like natural teeth. They can be cleaned like natural teeth, without additional solutions or brushes. It may also be easier to speak or chew with implants than with dentures, which can translate into better nutrition and satisfaction. Finally, implants help retain the jawbone over time because they are fused to the bone like natural teeth.

However, implants have disadvantages. They can be very expensive and may not be covered by insurance. The surgeries involved in placing implants may be associated with various complications, such as bleeding and infection. During drilling, the surgeon may pass through the jawbone and into sinus or nasal cavities, increasing the risk of infection. Also, a nerve that runs along the lower jawbone may be injured during drilling, resulting in pain or numbness that may be temporary or permanent. However, nerve damage is not common.

There's too much information on this topic to copy/paste but I think you'll find answers to most of your questions at the link below, including a prinatble sheet of questions to ask your doctor:

I am a dentist living and practising in Central America.

Patients oftn refer to their experience as a less painful one that having previous teeth extracted.

If you take your pain killers at the appropiate time and having a conventional procedure performed, pain should be mininal.

good luck

Reply:yes - 12 -- spanish -- less than half the English price-- 4plus hours-- lessons -- pasta, spaghetti, soup, porridge etc for weeks. allow 4 months for fixing -an old mouth has to adjust - the inconvenience will pass--- but they'll want you back for 3 weeks for fixing-- and the agreed fee will probably be lifted--- if you have twelve done-forget the pain - its less than one extraction-

just very tiring.

for weeks you won't even be able to crush a grape!
Reply:Ouch just thinking about it hurts. I'm not over 65 and I haven't had implants but I was supposed to have them about 10 years ago. The dentist made the mistake of showing me coloured photographs of the procedure and told me the process would take a whole year (4 implants). I ran out of there and never went back.

My regular dentist has told me that it's time I check it out again as there have been great advancements in implants, they don't tike as long and it's a lot less painful than it used to be. The cost is also only a fraction of what it used to be.

There was a lot on the news in Iceland lately about people who went to other countries to get cheaper implants and other types of dental work and cosmetic surgeries of all kinds. A lot of those people ended up paying a lot more to have the original work fixed. Make sure if you go abroad to have it done that you get recommendation about the dentist and that he has a real education and good training and equipment.

Good luck!

Dental Implants?

dental implants for my daughter who is 10 years old? Do they do them? Do implants hurt?

Dental Implants?
she's WAY too young for implants....she probably doesn't even have full set of permanent teeth (32 including all wisdom teeth)....her mouth is still growing, bite still will be changing....if she lost her permanent tooth dentist will probably suggest a flipper-which is a temporary removable prostethic...and when she is ready...and it won't be for a least few more years then you can think about placing an implant..but right now go see your dentist or if you don't have one schedule a consultation visit with a pedodontist (pediatric dentist) b/c they specialize in children and they will give you the best option for your child
Reply:When your daughter has finished growing, you could consider implants ( about age 18). In the meantime, consider some form of space maintainence program, so that the teeth don't shift into bad positions. If she has lost a first (6 year) molar, the 2nd (12 year) molar should be encourage forward into the other space (usually see an orthodontist for that). If she is congenitally missing lateral incisors, consider a retainer with artificial teeth in the missing spot (then implant later). If she is missing 2nd bicuspids, consider bringing the molars forward to fill the space. Sounds like you could use a second and maybe a 3rd opinion. see an orthodontist as well. When kids are this young, they can often manipulate the existing teeth to fill the spot. (total implant cost and orthodontic costs are comprable)

Good luck
Reply:either you are crazy or your dentist who suggested implants for your daughter. Depending on which tooth is lossed ( milk or permanent).Go for a removable denture if the milk tooth is prematurely removed or see if an orthodontist can move the other tooth forward.
Reply:Your daughter is way too young for this procedure. It's only done on adults after losing a permenant tooth that cannot be replaced with a bridge or something else.

Anyone younger should only need something temporary until their teeth fill the spaces.

A dental Implant is meant to fill in for the permenant tooth (usually a front tooth) or in an area very noticible and they are around 8000.00 ea.

Take her to someone else for another opinion.
Reply:ur daughter is too young 4 this..n let me sai u it is a traumatic procedure...n the bone growth shud be complete for this surgical procedure to be done... they drill into ur bones to place the screws.... so the bone shud be able to wthstand all the force applied to it...or it mite simpli crack !! so... dont put ur daughter thru this trauma at this age ....!!
Reply:Dental implant surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and Lasik surgery in India by a company called Indian Health Guru Consultants. The Price for dental and Lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Indian Health Guru Consultants is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, Lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.

They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Broken Teeth

Dental implants?

Is there more risk of getting gum disease or any kind of disease of the gums with dental implants? Do the gums naturally form around the implant? For long term, are implants a good option?

Dental implants?
These days implants are the way to go. They are the closest things to your natural teeth. You must be prepared to take care of this tooth as if it were your own to avoid any problems such as inflammed gum tissue and infection.

First I'll answer your question...There is no proven fact that the risk of periodontal disease is higher than normal. I am unsure if you suffer from periodontal disease or if you are worried about getting it. Gum disease is caused by many different factors such as: smoking,or poor dental hygeine. It is caused by bacteria. If you visit your dentist for a cleaning every six months the risk of periodontal disease can be minimized.

Usually your periodontist or general dentist will discuss your personal dental implant success rate before treatment. If you do suffer from gum disease this could mean that the level of bone at the implant site may not be sufficient. In this case you can have a bone grafting done.

The procedure for dental implants is not an overnight thing and even though there is a high success rate it is possible (like with anything) that it may not take. Most likely...you will have nothing to worry about.

The titanium steel "screw" will be placed in the bone at your first visit. A healing cap will be palced on top of the site to prevent the gum tissue from growing over the implant. This area will have to heal for a few months. The bone and gum tissue will heal around the site.

Once the area is healed and the periodontist is satisfied. The general dentist will prepare your implant for a crown. Impresions will be taken and sent to a lab and you will be given a temporary crown.

Just remember to brush and floss and visit your dentist bi-annually and you should be fine.
Reply:Implants are exceptional to replace missing teeth. the body does well in treating the titanium like bone and can heal well around it. Implants are about $3k a unit(tooth) and will take 100% compliance committment from a patient. you must be willing to maintain your investment and do exactly as your dental professional advises, including flossing-otherwise you might be wasting your money.
Reply:Hi,

There is not really anymore risk of getting a gum disease with implants. Implants are wonderful to get when its your last option or if you don't want anything removable in your mouth. It is important though that you clean real, real good around your implant and you don't smoke. It is a fact, people who smoke and has dental implants....the implants fail. Hope I have helped you. Yes, gums should naturally form, if not, then there is gum grafts.

Dental implants.?

hi, im 21 years old. and have bad teeth. well i used to. right now i have no insurance, but i have one temp bridge, and two crowns in my upper teeth. the bridge consists of 3 teeth. these are all my 5 upper teeth together. i hate it! they always come loose and i have to go in like every 5 months to get them re cemented on. and i can't afford anything. however, i just got a new job, and i will have dental insurance. im thinking about implants. now i would do my top 6 teeth, since its the two crowns, my real tooth, then the 3 tooth bridge. would this be worth it? even at a young age? i just hate my smile, the bridge is starting to change color, and im so embarassed to smile.

when getting dental implants, can they do any color i would want? how long do i have to wait to start eating normal again? please tell me any expierances you have, and any info you have.

Reply:Hi. I have a dental implant and I tell you what I know. I recieved mine when I was 7 years old for lost origional tooth in an accident and I had it replaced with an implant. I am 38 and still have it but it needs replaced so its safe to say they are very sturdy and last a long time. Now the sad thing is is some insurance companies will not pay for implants because its considered cosmetic. . My insurance is Delta Dental and my plan pays 55% . Make sure you check on what your new insurance covers and does not cover and your annual maximum. Implans are expensive and can cost anywhere from $1,000 to 1500$ before insurance and that is per tooth. If you want to get 6 implants you will want to do one tooth at a time due to the high cost. I also advise to not use all your annual maxium right up from. leave a few hundred for the end of the year for you never know when an emergency comes up and you will need some coverage

Dental Implants?

Can anyone tell me how much a dental implant costs... stories and effects of these implants? My #32 has to be removed. The dentist said that the cavity was caused by the wisdom tooth that was behind it. The wisdom tooth has been removed now.

I really need information about implants, along with any other suitable compairsions

Dental Implants?
Hello, first..your #32 tooth is your Wisdom tooth...there can't be another wisdom tooth behind it,, you only have one wisdom tooth at the back of each side of your upper and lower jaws. Now the tooth in front of the #32 is of course the #31, (2nd molar) and if it has to be extracted then a single tooth implant is possible As for the cost, it varies due to each DDS having different criteria that the DDS uses to set dental fees...and the fee set has absolutely nothing to do with fair trade practices and prices. The DDS pays between $85 and $120 for an implant post, the balance of the fee is a combination of office overhead, what he or she thinks they can get, and in some cases how especially important and talented he or she thinks they are. I have known of implant fees that are as low as $300 per post "only", and as much as $ 1000...Then of course you have the crown that fits over the post, The DDS pays a dental Technician to create the crown and pays that person around $90 for the crown and then charges a patient up to $1000 for it. Most dental fees represent a 5 to 10 times mark up over actual material cost. OK, there you have it. Good luck and I wish you well.
Reply:I asked a similar question a while back, but was still abit vague. You should ask the dentist how much they cost because it would seem prices vary from practice to practice!

Good Luck
Reply:Sometimes a dentist will cap a tooth next to the missing one and attach a fake tooth so it looks like two teeth. Often the wisdon tooth way in the back is not replaced. I have all my dental work done in Mexico as I am about 10 miles away in Texas. Same good service for less. My Mexican dentist reminds me of one I had in Chicago. He explains everything he is going to do, gives me choices and medical opinion. He draws little sketches as he is also an instructor.
