Apparently, a regular dentist charges much less in consultation ($50 vs $150). Does that mean inferior expertise and service?
Who's better in performing dental implants, prosthodontist or regular dentist?
i'm gonna say the prosthodontist just because they go to more school. however, a surgically oriented general dentist like myself might be better than the prosthodontist. i think most prosthodontists refer to periodontists for the implant placement anyway. the prosthedontist usually just restores them.
also keep this in mind. general dentists drill ALL DAY. i mean i drill on people's teeth for hours on end every single day. the most important part of drilling is proper orientation of the drill. since placing implants is pretty much just drilling a perfectly designed hole into jaw bone, i find myself highly qualified.
as for the consultation....prosthodontists don't see as many patients a day so they have to charge more. this also keeps out the riff raff that might not be serious about treatment. general dentists are forced to specialize in riff raff.
Reply:I will tell you from both sides of the coin. As a dentist with implants. LIKE all surgery the success rate is almost always totally correlated to the number of procedures the doc has done.
Reply:I am going to have to vouch for an oral surgeon. My father is an oral surgeon and places excellent implants. He had a 6 year residency (after 4 years of dental school) and is therefore more qualified than a general practitioner to place implants.
I recommend going to someone specialized for cases such as these.
Just because someone charges less doesnt mean they are inferior however in this case I dont feel a general dentist is as qualified.
