I'm missing my upper lateral incisors. Who has had dental implants done? Experience?

I'm in the process of getting dental implants. But my dentist is very mysterious about my procedure. He doesn't tell me what is going on at all. Asking questions and actually getting answers is like pulling teeth. I'm getting xrays done, and minor adjustments to the braces I have on now. I have a general pic of what's going to happen, but its not enough. I'm debating whether to switch docs, but I've been with him since I was a little girl.

Sounds like the biggest problem is that he is still treating you like a little girl.

I had implants done two years ago. My dentist was wonderful. Showed and told me what all was going to happen, how much pain and recovery time to expect, etc. Also gave me an option of local or general anesthetic. The whole thing was no big deal. No worse than having a cavity filled. I took a few days off work, just in case. I wound up not needing the time off as there was very little pain and almost no bleeding. I had 6 top front replaced (car accident). They look and feel great!
Reply:I haven't had them done to me, but I work in a dentist's

office and we see this all the time. Ok, here goes.

You go to the oral surgeon, they open up your gum tissue

and put a screw down into the bone, then they close the

gum tissue back up over it and stitch it together again for

a while so the bone will grow onto and around the screw.

Then after it's had time to heal up, they go back in and

expose the top of it and attach a crown that looks just

like a normal tooth onto the top of the screw. It sounds

worse than it is, cuz it sounds gross, but you wanted to know...
