i am considering have a dental implant....any happy stories?
Anyone had dental implants?
I have five. They are natural looking, natural feeling and function beautifully. Well worth the cost if you can afford to spend it. Much better than a bridge, as a bridge will not maintain any bone where the tooth was lost. Whenever you lose a tooth, the bone resorbs over time. In fact, it can happen rather quickly depending upon the individual and the location of the lost tooth (upper or lower jaw). That is why people with dentures need to be refitted over time. Their dentures start slipping because the jawbone has partly resorbed. Both bone height and bone width is lost. The same thing can happen when you have a bridge. The result is a gap in between the replacement tooth and the gum. Also, with a bridge, the two opposing teeth have to be "whittled down" (as I call it) and crowned when, often, those teeth are pefectly healthy and intact. If you're trying to make a choice between and implant and bridge and can afford the implant, it's a no brainer. Get the implant! Good luck!
Reply:Yes, my wife has been going for 2 years, $15,000 worth of implants. She is thrilled with how her teeth now look.
PS her mom was a dentist, only worried about her brother, not the two sisters. Cuban family, son comes first...
Reply:no, but I got dentures and after the anestesia wore off I was looking for the trauma unit!unfortunately the denture clinc did not have one. Good Luck!!!
Reply:You mean, as in you now have a gap where you used to have a tooth? If yes, that was me, and I did get an implant, and we've been living happily together for about four years now. I had a tooth extracted years ago and lived with the gap. I did not like that but was not ready to spend the money. I was told I could get a bridge, but chose not to mess up my other teeth.
Reply:Yes - have had two done for teeth lost to bad root canal surgeries. Expensive but VERY worth it - the actual implant was a snap - 15 minutes and it was in the bone in my jaw. Minor discomfort for a day - relieved by ibuprofen. The "restoration" is just like having a crown done - they make upa "temporary" and paste it on the post then a week later your new tooth is put on. Looks just liek a real tooth and wears better. No regrets at all.
Reply:I have a total mouth restoration. 8 implants on top and 6 on the bottom that holds a prosthesis bridge. Similar to a denture but without the roof of my mouth covered. My teeth screw onto the implants and are very beautiful and secure. You would not be able to tell they are fake unless I told you. I brush and floss just like one does with natural teeth. I love them.
