How comfortable dental implants are?

I have lost one of my front upper teeth. I am hesitant to go for dental implant like i am worried about risk factor involved and its failiure rate


also the amount of pain I have to endure

periodontists are tha bomb! it is safe and looks good. i lost my front top tooth yrs ago and have an implant. surgery was fast and only hurt a few days, aspirin took care of the pain. my tooth still looks good and is firm. it has not given me any problems in the past 12 yrs. you should do it.

Reply:I lost one of my left front upper teeth about four years ago. I had the implant put in (you are put to sleep during the procedure) and was sent home to sleep off the anesthetic. I woke up and never took any type of pain medicine.





Six months later, it was determined that the bone around the implant didn't heal properly and the implant was going to have to be removed. Again, I was put to sleep, the implant was removed and stuff was placed under my gums to stimulate new bone growth. I was sent home to sleep off the anesthesia and, again, did not need any pain medicine.





Six months later, the second implant was put in and this time I needed ONE pain killer (remember, this was now the third time that trauma was caused to the area). The tooth was then placed and I have had no pain or problems since.





I definitely recommend the implant. However, find out before hand if there is any additional cost to you if the implant doesn't "take".
Reply:I lost my upper right incisor and opted for an implant.


The day of the surgery, I ....didn't take any of the prescribed pills I was supposed to take (pain relievers, etc.). Anyway, I went in, they gave me two sleeping pills. I was suppose to fall asleep (what usually happens to other patients) but I didn't sleep (maybe 'cause I didn't take the other pills?). I was a little drowsy but I stayed awake throughout the whole thing. I felt the implant being drilled into my gums and to be honest, it didn't hurt at all! It was nothing. No pain and it was done real quick. I went home and slept. I woke up, the area where the implant was placed did bleed but that was just for about three days then it stopped. It really didn't hurt and I ... well, because I wasn't feeling any pain, I never even took any of the pain relievers. I was eating pretty much all the foods I wanted to eat also. Two weeks after the surgery, I went back and had some x-rays taken and luckily, the implant was perfectly positioned. Got my crown six months later and it looks great. Go for it! Be sure to go to a really good prothodontist though!

Reply:most of my patients report not taking the pain pills i prescribe for post op pain. it's just an unbelievable procedure!





as long as you floss around your new tooth you don't have anything to worry about. the 10 year survival rate for implants is 95%. crowns only have about a 60-70% survival rate so success is way more predictable with and implant.

If done by an expert no pain.





Will not fail if you do not use to break things off , you can chew with it.
Reply:Dental implants are indeed difficult to handle. Vhave to handle with care more than the v usually do. Or else v have to visit the doc regularly. Doc advice must be followed to prevent a lot of trouble. V must allow the implants to settle or v have to get used to the varitions. Pain is the toughest part in it.
