what are they like? i have to get three of them. do they hurt, do they keep you awake during them? my teeth have already been pulled where they are putting the implants. do you actually have a tooth when they do it or is it just some metal that they put the tooth in later?
Dental implants?
I've had two. I was awake, but very numb.. didn't feel a thing. They put a titanium screw into the socket and then wait a few months till the bone grows in around it, before your dentist can fit a tooth. The only wierd moment was when the dentist was screwing the pin into my jaw one using what looked to me like a Craftsman socket driver - but still not paint.
Both worked out great - less discomfort than a root canal. Key issue is whether or not your jaw has sufficent bone mass. If it doesn't you'll need a more extensive procedure for implants. I'd advise getting a specialist who does a lot of implants and probably avoid anyone who does the whole procedure in one session.
Reply:i feel for you...there goes your head giving talent!!!!
Reply:I got implants from a specialist and paid mega-bucks. Afterwards, at a checkup, one of the hygenists told me her Mother had gotten a full mouth of implants at UT Dental school for 1/2 half of the cost of my 4 teeth. She said only the teachers (licensed dentists) at the school did implants. The students only watched.
I had to get bone transplant and it was drawn out and gross and hurt badly. The rest ( screws and teeth) was not that bad and did not require any type of pain medication or anesthesia..
Reply:yikes let me know how that goes cause I have to get 2 of those in a couple of months
