Dental implants - am I being overcharged?

I had to have an implant done. I paid the DDS who put in the implant just over $2000 and insurance paid $900. That brings total cost to about $3000. My general DDS is now charging $400 for tissue conditioning, $800 for the post and $800 for the crown. This seems a little much. Total price is now $5000 for one tooth (out of pocket approx. $3200)! I guess my question is "if we suppose an implant should cost around $3500, is this price before or after insurance payments?"

Dental implants - am I being overcharged?
part of the price depends on your zip code. bigger cities have bigger prices. i usually tell patients to expect about $3000 out of posket mainly because insurance rarely covers implants. i'd say you didn't get the best deal but you were'nt unfairly charged.
Reply:Implants are very expensive!!! it cost thousands for them and thats not including the price of the bridge or crowns that go over them!!!
Reply:That is on the expensive side and more than I charge but it doesn't mean that you were overcharged. I agree with the answer above that it also depends on what city you had it in and other factors regarding how the tissues around it are.
Reply:I BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE BEING OVERCHARGED BECAUSE THE PRICE FOR THE IMPLANT SHOULD NOT INCLUDE "TISSUE CONDITIONING"? I'VE NEVER HEARD OF THIS. THE COST FOR THE ATTACHMENT ("THE POST") YOU MENTIONED SHOULD BE INCLUDING THE PRICE OF THE OVERALL IMPLANT OR SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE PRICE FOR THE CROWN.

I WOULD CALL THE INSURANCE AND TELL THEM WHICH ITEMIZED CODES (FROM THE DENTAL CDT 2006) THE DENTIST IS SUBMITTING? YOU CAN FIND OUT IF IN FACT YOU ARE BEING WRONGFULLY OVERCHARGED.

YOU MAY HAVE GOTTEN A BRIDGE ASSUMING, YOUR DENTAL CIRCUMSTANCES ALLOW, FOR ANYWHERE FROM $1,500 T $2,500, FOR WHICH THE INSURANCE WOULD HAVE PAID 50%.
Reply:That price is before dental insurance pays. This seems like the usual fee for some dentists in CA.
Reply:i have never heard of tissue conditioning either, sounds like a bogus charge to me. the post price seems like that may be the charge for the implant abutment, impession post, and laboratory implant fees, that are not covered in the price you paid for your implant , the crown price is fair, so the actual overall price is probably about right depending on where you live.
Reply:It is pretty expensive at that price. I was looking for best deal on offer overseas and made an internet search for best deal dental implants surgery in india. I was offered Nobel Biocare (Sweden) dental implant and Procera crown both for just $1200 by top grade dentist. It explains your question in many ways.

I would like to know other than metals what other materials are being used for dental implants?

I have heard that metal in the body interfere with the bodies energy flow so are there any other options when it comes to implants and other work done in the mouth?

I would like to know other than metals what other materials are being used for dental implants?
All dental implants are made of metal. (titanium) There are no other options when it comes to dental implants. With respect to "other work done in the mouth", there are a variety of materials to chose from. (metals, plastics, porcelain and combinations of these three.) A dentist could help you determine which material is optimal for your needs.

I would also suggest further study regarding the body's energy flow and implants. I've seen a few reports of an increased sense of well-being once dental implants have been placed. It may have something to do with the purity of the metal used acting as a focal point/intensifier for energy flow.
Reply:There are no scientific studies in existence relating metal and the body's "energy flow". Titanium dental implants, on the other hand, have a long, well-documented track record, and over a 95% success rate.

Stick with science, not science fiction.
Reply:And just who are they ? that is hogwash!
Reply:You should worry more about lead poisening from the gas emitions from cars than what a titanium implant will do to your bodies energy flow.

Anybody know anything about getting government grants to cover the cost of my four dental implants?

The problem is that I have had braces for 10 years due to the fact that I was born without all four of my canines which resulted in an utter NIGHTMARE. So I have just had fake teeth glued to my braces. But im about to graduate from college with my Bachelor's degree. However, my degree is basically useless if I dont go on to grad school which i want to do. But my braces are fixing to come off so I have to find a way to pay for these implants which cost anywhere from 12-17,000 dollars..I simply cannot afford to go on to graduate school which will not allow me to work at all. I need help!

Anybody know anything about getting government grants to cover the cost of my four dental implants?
Sometimes colleges of Dentistry will do dental work for free or for discount. You should check what your college's insurance policy covers because mine does cover dental work as well as health.

The government does not, to the best of my knowledge, give grants to individual people for health care who are not on medicare or medicade.

Reply:Grants are not given for dental work.

I suggest you check with your local Dept of Health for any dental assistance programs available in your community. Or if you live nearby a university that offers dentistry courses, you may contact a student and have them do your dental work for you for free.

There are no grants for paying bills, for getting out of debt or for buying a car. Grants are free, but it means OBLIGATION. You will be obligated to do as the grant sets out to do. Grants have objectives, and your purpose must fit the objective of the grant.

For one, you have to write the grant application and the grant application is not a simple document - you have to explain how your purpose for applying for the grant fits well with the objectives set out by the grant.

There is a stringent review process through a committee. You will compete with other applicants for the grant money, and this grant review committee will evaluate the merits of each proposal. Only those that they feel exemplifies the objective of the grant will be approved.

Nonetheless, you can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov - these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support your purposes.

Even if you buy books on "how to get grants" or list that supposedly has information on grants -- all of them are mere rehash of what CFDA has, albeit packaged differently.

Note though that these grants generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments. Most of the federal grants are given to specific target groups with specific requirements (e.g. minority business owners involved in transportation related contracts emanating from DOT - Grant#20.905 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Short Term Lending Program. Individuals especially for personal purposes are not eligible for federal grants.

Grants are also often given to non profit groups or organizations involved in training or other similar activities (grant 59.043 Women's Business Ownership Assistance that are given to those who will create women's business center that will train women entrepreneurs

Dental implant surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and lasik surgery in India by a company called Indian Health Guru Consultants. The Price for dental and lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

I am thinking about geting implants 4 in the front and 3 in the back. the dentist say's he wonts to put befor and after photos on extream make over. going to the dentist make me have anxioty atticks

Have anyone had or know someone that have had dental implants how did thay turn out?
My mom had implants and they are fantastic in both looks and function. Tell the dentist about your anxiety, if he won't help you out try a different dentist. Implants require lenthy appointments and you need to be calm.
Reply:I know a guy who has 3 in front and they seem to be alright. he says they are several years old now
Reply:My mother had her "uppers" done with implants and while quite expensive she never regrets it. False teeth at age 55 were very difficult psychologically for her and her taste was altered. She tried for 1 year to get dentures that fit right and didn't make her taste buds react with no luck.

She had implants done over about 4 months and 1.5 years later --- stands by her decision.

Make sure you discuss your anxiety with your dentist - most times fear of the unknown is the culprit so a thorough explanation and explaining step by step what is happening during the procedure is very helpful!

I wish you luck!
Reply:My friend did an implant on only one tooth and it hurt like mad. It is a process which would take months for the 'screw' to grow into your jaw. I did consider doing but am still thinking about it because of the pain and extremely high cost. And you're doing 7 !! However, it does look great for my friend, you can't tell that it's an implant.

Do you get temporaries to cover the metal screw of dental implants untill you get the permanent ones??

im missing a coupla teeth in front on top. i wanna get dental impants. when the dentist explained it to me he didnt tell me whether you get a temporary or not. i thought you just have this big metal screw hangin outta your jaw. someone else told me they give you temporaries to cover it till it heals. what do they do whan they give you dental impants?? temporaries or no??

Do you get temporaries to cover the metal screw of dental implants untill you get the permanent ones??
Yes, they will put temporaries on. And the good part is, NO ONE WILL KNOW THE DIFFERENCE!
Reply:I just came from a consultation regarding implants yesterday. I was not told anything about temps. Mine are not in front where you could see them so maybe that is the difference. They made it seem that it has to heal awhile so that is why nothing would be there. The whole description gave me the Hebe jeebes, not to mention the cost. I think I am going to go for a bridge or something like that.

Has anyone ever had any bad experiences with dental implants?

If so, can you tell me what happened? I have a friend of mine that had it done and almost lost her life because she ended up with Sepis {Infection In The Blood}, due to the negligence of the doctor! She now has to have at least 2 more surgeries due to jawbone loss, and has to have bone replaced. I was just wondering if anyone else had a bad experience with implants.

Has anyone ever had any bad experiences with dental implants?
Why not go to www.dentalfearcentral.com and ask the question. There are hundreds, if not thousands of people there who post messages about their experiences at the dentist, their fears etc. More than likely you will get support from people who have had dental implants. Good luck.

How long can you wait before before putting in dental implants?

I recently had all my teeth pulled and received full upper and lower dentures. I want to eventually get the prostethis for the top and lower, but I know it's costly. How many years before I start losing to much bone to get the implants? I figure I can probably afford about 3 implants a year. Also, anyone know a good place in florida to get this done? My dentist now is kind of expensive.

How long can you wait before before putting in dental implants?
If you want implants, you should get an evaluation ASAP and see if you have enough bone to start with.

Since you have full dentures, as time goes by, your jawbones will shrink more and more and may become unsuitable for implants (if not already).

So get an evaluation, and make a tinely decision if implants are still an option for you.

Good luck.
Reply:as you get older you gradually start losing bone, we have many older patients getting implants done in my office that are into their seventy's so you should be fine..and dentist can take a panaramic x ray to determine that this is true and give you a more deffinant answer usually after 8 months to a year after surgery you can have implants done, just needs time to heal..go for consoltations with other dentists to see if you can get implants done cheaper and ask for a copy of your panaramic x ray so they can give you acurate pricing..

Does any know how I can get Dental implants or Dentures?
Dental Implantology is a fairly new area of dentistry and the costs are still high. As time goes on and more and more dentists are involved in these procedures, the cost will come down significantly.

There has, in my opinion, been a tendency for certain practitioners to overcharge for dental implant procedures. There are two major costs involved in dental implant treatment. The first is the implant itself and the second is the restoration (tooth or teeth) that is anchored by the implant.

Reply:Ask your doctor if he/she knows where you can get free dental care. Implants are very expensive, so you'll probably have to get dentures or partials. Good luck
Reply:I think most dental insurances - even the worst - cover some, if not all, of the cost of dentures. All your dentist has to do is send a letter describing the need. If you call them and ask they will tell you no, so ask your dentist to do it. No insurance on the face of the earth covers implants because they are classified as cosmetic. Good luck to you.
Reply:Get a partial. They're cheaper then implants that's for sure. Implants start at $3000.00 and are not covered by insurance, and probably never will be because there are cheaper ways to replace missing teeth ( partials, bridges...) If you get government insurance, they will pay 50% for a partial. Open a line of credit, and call government insurance. Get implants out of your head if your tight an money.

thank you?

Have any of you had to have dental implants? i mioght be getting them and IM 15 :S?
Many people have extremely high success with implants, and the younger you are, the healthier your bone usually is, so they will probably have a better success rate. Remember, implants are basically a fancy screw that is placed into a hole in your bone so that a tooth can go on them. The body amazingly forms bone around the implant and sort of "adopts" it as a body part. You sometimes even form nerves around the metal so that you can feel pressure when you bite down on the implant!

You say you wear dentures, so do you have no teeth at all? Or are you wearing a partial denture to replace a few teeth that you have missing? Implants tend to do better if you have one for each tooth that is missing, though if you need your whole mouth replaced, they may just place 2-4 on each arch (top or bottom.)

But yes, if the dentist and surgeon think you're a good candidate, I'd go for them. It's SO much easier than a denture that comes in and out and is stronger than something like a bridge that is cemented in.
Reply:As some one who has created thousands of dentures and many many Implant prosthesis, I would not in good faith recommend you get Implants. Two issues you must first consider, (1) There is no current test that tells the doctor that your gum bone will accept the implant, it may reject it, and if it does, the implant has to be removed and you lose additional gum bone in the healing process. (2) Implants are currently successful about 86% of the time.....NOW, dentures over implant post can be very good or pose appearnce problems and they can not always be as thin in plavces where they need to be.

Also, few "Over Dentures", thats what a denture is called that fits over implants, fits really close to the gum tissues, and that in turn can trap food under the denture as you eat. I can't tell you the number of people who came to me wanting something done to prevent that from happening. While I created Over dentures for Dentist for their patients, I would not for my own patients. I created custom created dentures for over 40 years and I never saw an "Over denture" that looked, fit or functioned as well as a properly created regular denture. If you properly take care of your overall health and you service your denture on a regular basis and replace it when needed, you should have great satisfaction for many many years. Good luck and I wish you well.

Does anyone know where you can get dental implants at a resonal price? My teeth are the worlds worst! Had est.

The est. I had was 11,000.00!!! Who can really afford that? I am 39 years old and dont want dentures, but I try not to smile anymore and try not to laugh because my teeth are that bad!!! I am sorry to hear that you need so much money to get your teeth fixed. I am in the exact same boat as you.

I have decided to use care credit, www.carecredit.com. I dont' know if that is an option for you. If you have never heard of it, go to their website.

Unfortunetly, there aren't a whole lot of options when it comes to cheap dental care. You could always go to a learning school. The people who are learning do it for a fraction of the cost. Keep in mind though, they are learning, and although they are supervised, they are not yet real dentists.

Whatever you decide to do, I wish you all the best. I know all too well how much it sucks to have bad teeth. And then to know that it will cost so much to fix it, that sucks evenmore.

Does any one know anyting about dental implants is it cheaper to go abroad ? whats the price ?
You need to visit a dentist who will evaluate the state of your mouth in particular , trhough radiology, the amount of bone that you have. In fact, many years having a prothesis can determine a resorption of the bone. And in case there is not enough you will not be able to put implants.Prices are variable. I would advice to choose a good dentist close to your town.We are talking about surgical operation so it is better to know the person who will do that and in case of complicancies ,to be able to get there soon. Just be sure the doctor has followed a couse on implants

Where can I get quality dental implants for a reasonable price? $3000 each sounds to high.?

The research I have done seems to point to a $3000 each price and this sounds like they have agreed on this as the going price, I feel this is high for someone who needs several implants, seven teeth. The upper and lower teeth. Can anyone help?

Where can I get quality dental implants for a reasonable price? $3000 each sounds to high.?
Dental schools usually offer discounted price on implants. For example, NYU dental school offers $500 on each implant (crown is included too) and they are the pioneers in the field of implant. However, there are certain qualifications to meet in order to get that price. So check with the dental school around and ask for their price and qualifications.
Reply:Check with a dental school. Is $3000 including the teeth or just the implant? If it includes the teeth it isn't a bad price.
Reply:I don't know where to get lower cost implants but my thought is it's not something you want to scrimp on. Bridges are a more cost effective solution but they don't last as long. I've had 1 implant which was around $5K and I'm in the process of my 2nd which will be around $4K due to various complications.
Reply:Our office charges only $1650.00 an implant, so yes you can get them cheaper.

But if this is the cost including the final crown, which we charge $1250.00 for, then no that is a reasonable price.
Reply:The implant would be from $1,500 to $2,000, but that's just for the implant. You need to have the implant restored with something or it's useless. ONE implant is typically restored with a crown, but that is a two-part deal. First you get what is called the abutment and sticks out above your gums. That can cost from $500 to $1,000 depending on whether you can use a pre-fab abutment or if it has to be custom made and what the fees are in your area. Once you have the abutment, you need a crown and that fee should be pretty much the same as a crown on a regular tooth. That would be from about $750 to $1,000 or maybe more in some areas. This means the total would range from about $2,750 to $4,000 depending on several factors. I'd say the average single tooth implant restored with a crown in New Jersey might be about $3,000.
Reply:I know how high going to the dentist is high. You can save up to 80% on dental.

I have to get to dental implants which will need temp crownes just wondering can i get them straight away?
They put a temp crown on mine straight away but it was awful and felt really odd Like a comedy rubber tooth i was glad when it fell out a week later
Reply:If the implants will be in the front, sometimes a 'flipper' is made to fill in the gap from the missing tooth. If the implants are in the back, it's usually left just with the healing cap in place.

You have to wait about six months before the crown can be made... this is to make sure your body doesn't reject the implant, since it's a foreign body...........

:)
Reply:i agree with CDA~NY. Sorry you have to wait but that's how it is.
Reply:if the teeth are in front, the dentist will try to cover that area, somehow, but i think its likely, you need the surgery to heal. Sorry, in my case it took 6 months. I had 7 implants ( one in front and 6 at the back). At the back i was just left to heal. At the front, the dentist used the old crown to "cover" temporarely the gap.

I hope this was useful.

Has anyone had full dental implants such as the Nobelsmile.com version?

If you have had implants such as a full mouth would you care to share the costs? I just heard of them and I am in the middle of getting regular old dentures and was thinking about checking into it for myself.

Reply:Although I had only one upper molar redone with a dental implant, I highly recommend the procedure. My scheduled crown was cancelled when the dentist discovered discovered the roots he'd done a root canal on 3 weeks earlier had cracked. I had to have the tooth pulled, and started the implant process.

Though it took 4 months for complete healing and readiness for a crown, my new tooth just snapped into position. It looks like my natural teeth and is extremely solid. No shifting, no glue to hold in dentures, and no pain.

It was expensive, though, about $3k all told, including the initial failed root canal, implant, and crown. The implant procedure took four visits in addition to two more to my regular dentist for the crown. Going to a foreign country might be difficult because of the need to return to the implant dentist.

I need 2 dental implants but I am afraid of going to the dentist because I'm very nervous.?

I know I need to have this dental procedure done so I'm looking for a dentist that is very nice to patients, good doctor and if possible, that uses some kind of sedation such as IV sedation.

Does anyone know one? I live in Glendale, CA.

I need a dentist in Glendale, Burbank or nearby.

I live near Glendale and I can recommend you a very good dentist that made me excellent dental implants. I had a positive change in my appearance and now I have very bright and nice smile. He used IV sedation with me and I recommend it 100%. You can contact him here: http://www.obteam.com/

Thinking of getting dental implants. need info?

I feel as a child and broke my teeth. I need to have them recrowned and also I need to have partials put in 3 spots where I have lost other teeth on the top row. I have alot of dental problems and was thinking of having the top ones removed and getting dentures. What are the steps and cost if anyone knows. I have excellent insurance but would still like a price to get a idea before I go talk to a dentist. Thanks

Ask your Dentist for a proposed treatment plan to provide to Your Insurance company. Predeterminations help you understand your payment responsibilities

A way to minimize your out-of pocket expense for dental care is to ask your dentist for a "predetermination" from the dental carrier paying the claims before you agree to receive any prescribed, major treatment.

This can ensure you know up front what the dental plan will pay, and the difference you will be responsible for. Your dentist may be able to present alternative treatment options that will lower your share of the bill, while still meeting your basic dental care needs. Hope this is helpful. Also remember you may coverage for a free 2nd and 3rd opinon. Always best to call your insurance company directly and ask the national average of fee/costs and their share of costs and/or perecentages and so on.

Many patients are intimidated by dental implant prices and are looking for ways to save money. To learn more about average costs for dental implants and money-saving options, please click here.

According to the report, prices for dental services increased by 4.9 percent in 2004, compared with general prices that increased by only 2.7 percent. In fact, the CPI for dental services has exceeded percentage increases for the CPIs of all items in aggregate except medical care since 1995 and the one-year percentage increase in 2004 was the highest since 1993. Data on CPI figures are calculated by the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Copies of the Consumer Price Index for Dental Services, 1970-2004 report are available for $15 for ADA members, $22.50 for non-member dentists and $45 for commercial firms. For more information on this report, contact the Survey Center at 1-312-440-2568 or on the Web.
Reply:I really recommend keeping the teeth you have and getting some crowns..DENTURES are not the way to go unless your teeth just cant be saved Trust me its better to get crowns instead of dentures you probably would only need a partial on top most detnures run about 850.00 depending on what you get the teeth made out of and crowns are about 650.00 also depending on the matieral used...I reccomend finding a dentist that goes by your income in your hometown that helps alot!
Reply:You are looking at quite an expense in dental work and I do not know how muh on insurance and how much rest out of pocket. If you have more than $3000 from out of pocket, consider asking Dental Care India Tour for a quote and then weigh you options.

How much do dental implants cost and how long is the healing time?

I do have dental DMO coverage

How much do dental implants cost and how long is the healing time?
I think all the price quotes below assume no insurance. I have a Delta Dental plan and my co-payments are 20%, so for a $750 procedure, I pay about $150 out of pocket. Did you mean a dental implant or crown? There's a website with information on how much all kinds of things should cost:

Dental Implant Costs --

Crown costs --

Reply:depends on where you live. I would say it's going to be

about 1500. for the implant itself (oral surgeon's fee) and

about 700.-1000. for the crown on it after it's healed(dentist's

fee) per tooth. Go in for a consultation and ask them, they'll

be happy to tell you.
Reply:The prices listed above are correct, and the healing time is around 3-6 months before the final crown is placed.
Reply:The total fee for a tooth implant is $3000 at my dentist.

How much are dental implants?

Ok,I'm a good looking guy,25 years old. i've had my share of beautiful girlfriends.but one thing i hate about myself is my teeth.they are all crooked and rotting in the back and this keeps getting worse no matter how hard i maintain them(rinse, floss, brush)I have no dental insurance and i live in upstate NY.I want to get them all pulled and get inplants,NOT DENTURES!!!how much do you think something like this would cost w/ no insurance and is there any oter ways i can go about this..Let me know please..

How much are dental implants?
I have implants: see my smile in my avatar. I have had both my natural teeth and now my implants. Even though I love my pretty smile it isn't comfortable like ones natural teeth. If I had even the slightest chance to have my own natural teeth I would do what I could to save them. Did you know that even if you did have insurance it wouldn't cover implants? To have the type of implants I have it would run you more than $40,000 and I am not exaggerating. Usually you need to find some type of financing and even care credit which is a credit card for dental issues only advances up to $25,000.

Save your teeth if you can. Dentures are not the route to take either. They do not like to stay seated and people end up living with denture adhesives and kissing feels unnatural with dentures as the roof of the mouth is covered.
Reply:well i just had a root canal a few months ago and wasnt sure if i would loose the tooth. they quoted me $3500 for 1 tooth for an implant. to do all your teeth would cost a LOT!! I live in NC so i am sure its probably even more expensive in NY. If it s something you really wan tto do i would suggest trying to find an insurance plan that would cover it and deal with the probation period (usually 6 months to a yr) and then get it done so you have help in the coverage.
Reply:When I worked for an oral surgeon, the implants were a few hundred dollars per tooth (and dental plans didn't provide much coverage for them unless it is determined a "medical necessity" and goes through your medical insurance instead of dental insurance). They might cost less now, this was several years ago.
Reply:As materials and techniques used are fairly sophisticated, there is a cost attached to having implants. However, in terms of quality of life, there is definitely a dramatic improvement for the many people across the world that have benefited from this procedure. The University Dental and Implant Centre’s normal charge is £1800 per tooth inclusive of all pre-treatment consultations and x-rays, crown provision and post-treatment follow-up. If bone grafting is required, this may add up to £200 per implant for simple grafts. For more complex cases, which may involve additional procedures like sinus lifts, larger grafts or multiple implants, your dentist will discuss the costs. Generally, the unit cost will reduce where more than 3 implants are placed. For example, an approximate cost replacing a full upper set of teeth (usually 10 teeth) is around £10,000-13,000.

CT-type scans to give 3-dimensional imaging can cost around £400 per jaw. We may recommend this in complex cases involving many implants. This type of investigation gives us the most accurate and predictable way of planning complex cases.

Please note: the prices indicated above are only a guide and will depend entirely upon the initial assessment. The normal consultation charge for those who are not registered with the practice is £50, inclusive of all x-rays and investigations.

Interest-Free Credit: We now have facilities to help patients with the cost of complex dental treatment by offering interest-free credit for all implant treatment. Please contact the practice for more information.
Reply:it would cost 1 hell of a lot of money, lets hope you saved up when you were younger!!

my mum is a hygeinist and she seriously reccomends that people dont get their teeth pulled as they regret it later on.also cleaning your teeth twice daily for 3 mins each time is exactly maintainence and your teeth shouldnt and wouldnt rot id you do this!!!!!!! i reccomend that you clean your teeth properly-not too hard cos your gums will bleed, and use listerine mouth wash daily to help get rid of any other nasties in your mouth. good luck hope this advice helps you.xx
Reply:MICHAEL,

THE COMMENTS FROM SKEETER ARE PRETTY ACCURATE. THE SENSATION OF CHEWING WITH NATURAL TEETH WILL BE LOST WITH IMPLANTS BECAUSE THERE WILL BE NO PERIODONTAL LIGAMENT (A SORT OF SHOCK ABSORBER WITH NATURAL TEETH), IN IMPLANTS, WHICH ARE ANCHORED DIRECTLY TO THE JAWBONE.

THE COST WILL RUN INTO MANY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS.
Reply:Dear Mike, I seem I´ve had somehow the same problem as yours. I do understand you. Unfortunatelly, I discovered it kind of late. I´ve heard its cost in the US is preety high and not 100% sure that your body will accept it.

lets have talk....smilewide_open@yahoo.com Danny
Reply:Basically figure since your in new york, with the cost of living out there, count on anywhere between 2-4 thousand per tooth, so anywhere between $50,000 and $100,000 for full mouth implants, and insurance usually doesn't cover implants unless they are necessary and are not for cosmetic reasons. Plus most dental coverage will only cover $2000 per calander year, and if you're lucky, maybe medical might pick up $5,000. They are not cheap.
Reply:I have two implants and have had zero problems with them. No chewing problems as others have stated. But how good can your chewing be now if you have rotten teeth in the back. It must be painful. My two implants, teeth numbers two and twenty cost be about five thousand total. That is with the placement of the implants by an oral surgeon, the healing caps, and the perm. crown that is a-fixed to the implants. I did receive a fifty percent discount on all of my work since I am in the dental field, but still it is expensive. However if you have the money, there is in my opinion no other way to go. I have had zero pain from their placement, to the final crown prep. It has been the best thing that I have ever done. They look just like all of my other teeth and you can't tell the difference without looking at an x-ray. As someone said above most likely implants will not be covered by your insurance. You have to evaluate your dental home-care routine. Are you flossing EVERYDAY, brushing after every meal, etc. If you don't have the dental care routine now. then you should def. get into the habit of using the correct procedures for brushing and flossing. Implants can fail, they are not one hundred percent fail-proof. If you are a smoker, then there is a fifty percent higher chance that the implant will fail. I would suggest to start saving your money now so you can afford the treatment that you want. Best of luck.
Reply:Wow, that sucks your having to go through that. My husband and I signed up a few months ago for dental benefits. It will cost you $11.95 a month. This company saves you up to 80% on your dental work. You also get free prescription, free vision and free chiropractic care with your dental.

I the have the dental implants?

I am not satisified with the results. I have been back 12 time for adjustments. At one point even had tm jaw. That has been resolved but my bite is still misalligned. I would like to have just the bottom denture remade. I have 4 implants in place. What would the approximate price be for the bottom implant denture only.

I the have the dental implants?
Each dentist charges his or her own prices. I mean one can charge 500.00 and another can charge 5000.00. It depends what doctor you go to . But remember you pay for what you get.

If I get dental implants, will I still be able to get braces down the road to fix the rest of my teeth?

I'm missing three of my teeth on the left side of my jaw due to bad job of wisdom teeth removal (don't ask). I am almost finished getting my implants done but I want to know if Braces is still an option for me. Anyone think they can help? THANKS!

If I get dental implants, will I still be able to get braces down the road to fix the rest of my teeth?
Generally once the implants have intergrated into the bone it's a bad thing to start moving them around. If your teeth just need a little straightening then the orthodontist will not put bands around your implant teeth but focus on the natural teeth. You should tell your dentist that you are considering braces before your implant supported crowns are made because he/she may want to keep that in mind when determining how the crowns should contact with natural teeth. Hope all goes well...
Reply:I don't see why not
Reply:You'd really need to ask the dr. that's doing your implants.

Good luck!

Happy Holidays!
Reply:The implants will not move, but they would make fantastic anchor teeth for braces! Implants are locked into the bone, unlike natural teeth which have the ability to be moved.

It would really depend upon what you wanted to achieve with braces, so you would have to see an orthodontist to see if he could work around the implants.

Does anyone have experience with dental implants?

I'm scheduled for an upper incisor titanium implant, recommended by my dentist of 30+ yrs and my periodontist. However I've recently heard of 2 aquaintances who had implants done, had problems, and actually had them taken out.

I don't know what the problems were as I don't know them well enough to call and ask, but infection was mentioned.

Does anyone have personal experience with implants who can shed more light on the issue?

Thanks

Does anyone have experience with dental implants?
Stop letting people scare you! Seems like people have nothing better to do than make people feel frightened. Dental implants have been around for 30 years. The biggest and most important factor in getting dental implants that are successful, begin with the dental professional themselves. Personally I believe you should begin with a Prosthodontist who is a dentist specialising in people with missing teeth. Plus you need to do your home work. My very own Prosthodontist wrote a book that I read this in. He states that if the Professional is reputable he will not mind your inquiries. Ask to see before and after photo's, and to speak with satisfied patients, find out how often this professional places implants and what is their success rate. My prosthodontist has a 98 to 100% success rate with every implant he places. There is so much technical skill involved with placing implants. It's not just drilling a post into your jaw bone. The sucess depends on so many factors including the area being totally sterile and not one germ introduced into the site, bone quality, type of implant placed, etc. Do not go to just a "dentist" for this very important procedure. Going to an oral surgeon who places them often is a good choice but a better choice is a prosthodontist who has a lab on the premises.

I have 8 implants on top and 6 on the bottom with an entire full dental bridge. Not one implant failed or had problems. Today's implants are so much more advanced than the ones they placed even from 10 years ago.
Reply:My husband had a titanium implant in a lower tooth and regrets it to this day. It took forever to heal, he still feels it--it's like it's trying to come out of his jaw, and said if there was another alternative he would remove it. He said it wasn't worth the money he spent on the implant.

Good luck. Have you talked to your dentist/periodontist about these concerns? I definitely would before going through with the procedure.
Reply:I have two implants for over a year and haven't had any problems. I went to a specialist to get them done (not a general dentist). It was a long process but definitely worth it.
Reply:people with uncontrolled diabetes (who didnt take his medication) tend to get infection after dental procedure such as implant placement.diabetes impaited healing, causing the failure og the jaw bone to 'merge' around the implant and hold it.i think implant is better placed on the lower jaw than upper as lower jaw bone is more dense and bulky than the upper.
Reply:If an upper tooth implant gets into your sinus cavity, you can have severe infections.

Anyone had dental implants?

I'm having plants done to my front two teeth as they were knocked out my a cricket ball (yes, it hurt like crazy). right now i have a bridge, but its very weak as its two fake tooths hanging on to the side ones, and it can come out anytime.

if anyone has had them done (or any dentists on here), does it hurt after surgery? can i eat normally? any side effects? i read from previous questions that the body can "reject" the implants and push them out, which is very painful, or that they just fall out, is this likely? and how long do they last?

Anyone had dental implants?
I've got 4, from various escapades of the drink related variety and had them for between 7 and 8 years and had no problems with them . . in fact they're probs better than me own nashers
Reply:Once They Remove Your Two Front Teeth The Pain Will Ease Of In The Bast While Playing Rugby I Got My Head Smashed On The Floor Causing My Tooth To Break In Half I Was In Pain For Quite A long Time Until The Dentist Removed By Tooth And Replaced It With A New One Which Was Fake But It Didn't Make And Difference.
Reply:my step dad had all his done he said it was the most painfull thing he has ever had done and that he thought he would never eat again . But they do look great once done .
Reply:I had the identical problem. I had implants installed. It is a long and painful process. First the dentist will remove the damaged teeth. Then the implants will be installed. This is only the part that is inserted into the bone not the teeth. Then the bone must be allowed to adhere to the implants, about six months. Then the teeth must be fitted to the implants. My first set of teeth where not made correctly and I looked like a beaver. They had to be removed and replaced with another set. This set is great. So plan for about a year of discomfort and about $6000.

Anyone with dental implants?

I'm 74 and have full dentures.Interested in having implants.Worth the trouble at this age?

Anyone with dental implants?
Of course it's worth it. You could still have 20+ years left of chewing to do... and that's a lot of chewing! :)
Reply:It's absolutely worth it at any age. The thing to check out is if you would have enough bone left to support the implants. If you've had dentures for many years your bone may be deteriorating (is that how you spell it? lol) and you may not have enough to solidly hold an implant in place. The best thing to do is to go to an oral surgeon, have them take an X-ray, and discuss it with him/her.

Any advice on dental implants?

i have a malformed tooth that the dentist thinks should come out. i am young, but the tooth itself is "double" cusped--additionally, i have periontitis in that gum, BECAUSE the shape of the tooth prevents me from keeping it clean. anyway, point is, should i go ahead and have them pull it and do the implant? this is what they are suggesting, as there is no other way to prevent the gum from repeatedly becoming infected (i can't even floss between the teeth correctly because of the malformed shape). i am afraid it is too serious of a procedure at my age. anyone had implants? am i being taken for a ride by the dentist or should i do this? my tooth is very painful.

Any advice on dental implants?
Do it. I have three implants. They look and feel just like my original teeth. It takes awhile but if they're in the back (like mine) it's no big deal to go six months without a tooth. If it's noticable the dentist can make you a flipper so you won't have a visible missing tooth.
Reply:Depends what tooth is it or do you know the number of the tooth if its a back tooth you can have it extracted and have a bridge made or if your missing some maybe you can have a partial. You didnt state the severity of the bone loss ? do you have a perio problem ? implants are a long process so be ready for waiting a while for results and oo yeah bust out the checkbook !!
Reply:I HAVE THE EXACT SAME THING! i am missing two teth so i must get implants. i would let the dentist do what he needs to cause if u wait longer it could just become more painfull. best of luck
Reply:Do it it's really no big deal if you have a stable pain tolerance. I knocked a two of my teeth out at the age of 12 and one of them couldn't be saved. I had braces at the time and once they came off I got an implant. I was 18 and it was no big deal to me. No one can tell that it's not my real tooth and I haven't had any problems with it. I'm 20 now and I'm glad I had the implant put in, I had that gap for years, and then poof it was gone and I had a perfect smile after. The hard part is going through the surgery of placing the post. It smarts for about 3 or 4 days but heals relatively fast, and it's all down hill from there. You just have to have the patience to wait for the tooth to be placed on the post, it's a long process. I would do it all over again if I had the choice. Good luck, I think you would be happy with the results.
Reply:You don't say which tooth or how old you are. I'll tell you what our dentist said about my daughther's tooth - she's 11. She has an adult tooth (a front upper lateral) that has a root that has resorbed during orthodontics. Basically, she has very little root left on the tooth and it will most likely not make it through the rest of her ortho treatment. So when it loosens and falls out, she is at this point too young to get an implant. They said she needs to be 18 years old or older. So we will have her fitted with a flipper (a false tooth on a retainer-like thing) until she is old eough and then get her an implant tooth. Hope that helps.

Free dental implants?

is there a procedure where you go to sleep for like 3 hours and wake up with all of your teeth replaced with implants? And what is the cost

Free dental implants?
There are no free dental implants. Even if you were to get it done at a dental school they would still charges several hunderd dollars. It is almost impossible to get in as a patient for dental implants.
Reply:It is funny to look for free dental implants when It is hard to find a free bread to feed and survive. And on top of it you ask what is the cost? Where do you belong to?
Reply:There is a procedure called implant surgery and extraction of teeth. For the cost you have to consult with your dentist because the rates vary per dentist for all procedures. If you want all teeth replaced it will cost you alot of money but it can be done.
Reply:Nothing doing, nothings comes free in life. You perhaps meant to know price of dental implants as good as free as compared to whichever city you are. Still the answer would be a No. And it is not a joke you would rather be smiling at your stars if you manage to search for: cheap dental implant clinics in india.

Dental Implants - Quick questions.?

Firstly I should say that I am only twenty-three years old and due to an accident I am now missing three teeth including my two front teeth. I haven't been to a dentist since my early teens for the simple reason that as a child I had a lot of bad experiences with them and the less said about the injection into the gum the better! Basically now that as left me completely petrified of dentists, it is actually my biggest fear.

Now I have finally taken what I consider a big step for myself and made an appointment with a private dentist as I have finally had enough of feeling so low due to the way my teeth appear.

On to the questions:

For the procedure do they just numb your gums or do they actually "put you out" with the gas so to speak? If not can you have the gas as an alternative?

Once the implants are in place, can you feel them in there or don't you notice at all and once it is all complete do the replacement teeth actually feel like your "own"?

Feel free to share your stories!

Dental Implants - Quick questions.?
Wow, I have completely been in your shoes! I was in a car accident two years ago and I didn't have an airbag, so one of my front teeth hit the steering wheel. A week or two after the accident I started to see one of my front teeth becoming more and more grey each day, so I went to the dentist, had my tooth pulled, went to a oral maxillofacial surgeon to have a bone graft, which is where they put cadaver bone in your gums, and had a titanium implant put in and all that jazz. While all of this was going on I was wearing what they call a "flipper" which looks like a retainer with a tooth on it. Anyway, on to answer your question...I was given an option to be put under or to be awake. I chose to be awake b/c it saved money. It didn't hurt, I could just feel the vibrations of the drill...but I was fine. It did hurt a little when they gave me shots in my mouth to numb me, but it's over with before ya know it. You may feel some pain after the numbness wears off, although I didn't experience much pain at all. I may have taken Tylenol once after the procedure and then I was fine. As far as feeling the implant, you can't feel it at all and after I had my crown in for a while, I didn't even think about it being there. It feels just like your other teeth. Good as new :) Good luck with your procedure! I know you'll feel a whole lot more self-confident after this whole saga is done, I know I did!
Reply:every strange object in your body makes you feel uncomfortable, i can tell you that your first days with the implants, you will not feel them as yours untill you get used to them, like my braces, the first week, i felt so uncomfortable, but the second week i didnt event notice that i had braces
Reply:Okay... first thing... You need to go to an oral %26amp; maxillofacial surgeon for your implants... not to a general dentist... A general dentist and dental surgeon is the same thing... Implants are painless, and are placed painlessly, and no you won't feel them... You can have them put in under LA, IV sedation, or GA... but only have a proper surgeon put them in... Go to http://www.oceansurgical.com.au/ to find out more
Reply:An oral surgeon will be the one that does the implant. He can give you an IV, laughing gas, or just get you numb. Whatever you would like to make you more comfortable. A general dentist will place the crown over top of the implant. So the oral surgeon does everything below the gum and the general dentist does everything above the gum. All of my patients that we have done implants on say that they were not in very much pain at all and yes they will feel normal after everything is done. Implants are a great way to replace missing teeth. You really should have them done. You will do fine with the procedure. Make sure you tell the dentist and the oral surgeon how uncomfortable you are about being there and they will do all they can you help you relax. Good luck! You are going to be so happy when the implants are done.
Reply:I too was scared of dentists but when I started visiting the dentist for my implant surgery, I become more and more comfortable. Still, the day before the surgery I was scared out of my mind. The dentist gave me local anesthesia and offered me a sedative (which I didn't take). The process took a few hours and at first I was really tense but that wore away. I didn't even feel how long it took and there was a point during the surgery where I almost fell asleep, I became so relaxed. Still, after a few hours the anesthesia wore off but as soon as I told them, they gave me more. After the surgery I felt the stitches and that was a little uncomfortable. Once they were taken out, I did feel the implants but in a good way. I had lost my teeth a few months before the surgery and in that time, the gum had shrunk. With the implants, the gum felt fuller-more normal. Because I never got used to the thinner feel of the gum, it felt much better with the implants in. I had my surgery a month ago and I feel great. Except for the first few days of discomfort (swelling/some pain), I feel great. Good luck!

Dental implants and prosthetics?

I am to the point of needing a full upper plate after removal of 2 more teeht. I cannot wear a standard denture due to gag reflex. The remaining bottom teeth are in a condition that wont take more than a few years before they need replaced, I could wear a plate on the bottom. Ive been told I could get implants in the top with basically a full bridge (new teeth) at roughly 10k. Before the Kentucky jokes start this started as the result of a cuestick in the mouth over 20 years ago.

Anyway the question is for you dentists out there, because of fear and gagging I have to be put out for almost all procedures. Would most that do this type of work take the impressions while I was out during the surgery or would they require I be awake? Or will they charge huge bucks just to put me out for taking impressions?

Dental implants and prosthetics?
If you have general anesthesia, you are generally charged in 15 minute blocks of time, regardless of what is done. There is a flat fee for the first 15 minutes, which is usually pretty high, and then the successive units don't cost quite as much.

The expense of putting you to sleep and keeping you safe are the same no matter what it being done while you are asleep.

DENTAL IMPLANTS overseas?
I hope it's cheaper to go back there when you have trouble, too.
Reply:Sorry to disappoint you. I'm just looking out for your interest, as I've seen this become a problem before. Spend $2,000 on travel to save some money and then GO BACK for follow-up when there is trouble. There goes the savings... But, suit yourself. It's a free country. Report It

Dental Implants? Restoration? who has had success with extensive work ? any work done out of the US?
Get Dental Implant / Restoration surgery in India.Cosmetic and dental Surgery is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges cosmetic surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.

I have also read that they arrange financing for American and Canadian patients as cosmetic surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your dental implant surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

my cousin got a couple of cosmetic surgery procedures in India like the dental Implant, facelift, liposuction through the forerunners healthcare.she is more than very happy with the results.she just paid 30% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.i personally have seen the wondeful results and am particularly impressed with the kind of quality care she got from this company.

Dental implants for upper jaw?

can you get implants for your upper jaw/teeth? I just got new upper dentures, and hate them. I look like a chipmunk on crack. How expensive are they I heard at least $2000 per tooth

Dental implants for upper jaw?
You require just about six ball type implants to support removal full dentures in the upper jaw (and normaly four implants in the lower jaw if dentures needed there also). This much expense should be enough reason for you to look for options overseas. Try making internet search for best deal denture treatment and holidays in thailand or turkey or india or dubai. Good luck

Has anyone had dental implants?

How do you feel afterward? Also how long ago did you have them put in and with which type of material is the implant made of? I am concerned that the metals that the dentist use will have a negative affect on my whole body. Is it hopeless to even consider implants if osteoporosis and periodontal disease are some things I am battling right now and will negatively affect the outcome of implants in the future?

Has anyone had dental implants?
Your question with regards to the osteoporosis and periodontal disease are good ones. Depending on the amount of your bone that you have lost will depend on whether you are eligible for implants. There are situations where the attending dentist (periodontist, oral surgeon) can use some types of bone grafting to see if they can build up your bone before they place the implant. There are several factors to consider before the dentist will decide if they are right for you. The implants are made out of titanium and are very strong. I have two implants and have never regretted paying the pretty penny for them. Many years back before I had dental insurance, or any money, I had two teeth extracted when I was about twenty. Numbers twenty and two. After hygiene school I decided to go ahead and have implants placed. I have/had good bone support, and no periodontal disease. The process was easy and painless. From start to finish the whole process, because of the bone integration/healing around the implant took about six months before I had the final crowns placed. I had to pay about five thousand out of pocket for all of the work. Since I am a dental professional I got a fifty percent discount off of my implants placement, basically buy one get one free is how it worked out. I also got a 10 percent discount off of my permanent crowns. Since I have worked at the same practice now for over two years I get all of my dental work free. However I have my teeth cleaned by a friend of mine at another office that my family frequents. Since I am the only hygienist at the office I work at it is a little hard for me to clean my own teeth, and to take x-rays. Doc could do it however he is so busy that I hate to ask him. Sorry to go off on a tangent, getting implants was one of the best things that I have done, dental-wise that is. Make sure that you find a good dentist to get your work done. I elected to have an oral surgeon place mine, because he is so good. And I refer everyone interested in implants to him because he did such a good job. However their are periodontists, dentists and oral surgeons who can do equally as good of a job, just make sure to check with your general dentist for referrals. Good luck. If all of the conditions are right than I say go for it.

Broken Teeth

Dental implants, cosmetic dentistry?

my friend has gum diesease , and has lost his four front teeth through it, how much should he expect to pay in the uk to have implants , his quotes at the moment are absolutely ridiculous £8000 , thanks alot

Dental implants, cosmetic dentistry?
hi - wow, my favourite subject!

Yep, had implants - 7 in total, but because i did 6 in one go, and 1 few years later, the 6 did not cost as much as 1 x 6. For example, for the 6 implants i paid 6000GBP and for only one implant i paid 1500GBp. Now my teeth look really nice and everyone makes comments - little do they know what i went through! The surgery was done in Harley Street - and they also offer 0% interest free credit loans Its the best thing i have ever done and would advice everyone to go for it. I can also give plenty of advice of " after op care" as i have been through it twice. Good luck.
Reply:Hi! For the UK that is the going price for implants and restorations. In the USA it is about 3K per a unit on the East and West Coast. Midwest and South is somewhat cheaper. However, it is not as easy as you think and if your friend has gum disease, the chances of the implants being successful with bone loss is harder. Often bone has to be grafted to make a larger support bone for the implants. Then they have to heal for 4-6 months before the restorative is done. This is a lenghty process. And it will never be cheap in this decade for sure. Wish I could tell you a better solution, but one thing is to get two implants and a restorative partial. That would be about 1/3 and look nice as well. This way your friend can eat and laugh and not worry about the partial falling out. That is certainly an option to consider. M
Reply:I can truly believe these quotes and am surprised they're not worse.

I'm a dentist in Ireland.

Implants here range from €2,500 to €5000.

Ball-park figure a pound sterling is about €1.50 so

that would be about $12,000 here..about $3,000 per tooth.

Its much cheaper in Eastern europe and the Exact same materials are used.

How do I know? Because the same companies in the US supply Ireland, the UK and Eastern Europe.

As a dentist I know the prices in the UK and Ireland are awful. In fact there is a cowboy in Cork in Ireland charging €5,500 PER IMPLANT!

most dentists dissuade people from going to eastern europe as they want to keep the work for themselves.

I have no problem with patients travelling for cheaper work and Budapest has proven a hot spot for cheaper, yet quality, work.

Check out www.hungarydental.com

I'm in NO way affiliated to them,in fact I suppose they're competition sort of,but he's not my patient so I'm giving you a tip..I've heard good stories about their surgeons.

An implant there costs about €1,000 to €1,500

Thats about £660 to £1000 pounds..

His quote there would probably be equivalent to £4000 not £12000

I would ensure first I had NO other, underlying cavities etc in my mouth before undertaking cosmetic work and the gum disease must be treated primarily.

Also important is how long his incisors are mising, what is the state of the bone? Is there infection??

NO IMPLANTATION WITHOUT A CLEAN BILL OF ORAL HEALTH!! my advice to you..

Feel free to email me

Dental Implants care recommendations?

I am going to have my two central superior teeth replace by implants. Could you tell me what general care directions should I take immediatelly after the procedure and until I get the definetively crowns? Thank you for your advices.

Dental Implants care recommendations?
Hi Pili.

Your dentist will give you antibiotics to help with the healing process. The first few days after the procedure you might have swollen gums at the site of the implantation - that is normal don't be concerned about it. Your dentist will tell you exactly what you "should" and "should not" do.

If you would like to read more about dental implants and the procedure that you are facing check out this link - http://www.dental-implants-guide.com/

Hope i helped

Good luck
Reply:Your dentist should give you antibiotics after the extraction. They sometimes put a temporary crown in, depends on the dentist. Just brush/floss carefully as usual and you should be fine. If you notice food getting caught or redness, tenderness, bleeding call the dentist and let them know. You should have a short wait (abt 2 weeks) for your permanent crowns, again, depending on the lab that makes them, so you shouldn't have to worry for very long.
Reply:Your dentist will give you explicit instructions for care based upon your personal requirements. Do not take anyone else's advice in this matter. You are paying a great deal for these implants, while the advice you get here is worth about what you pay for it.

Dental Implants - Do They Help Retain Bone Mass?

Hi. Right now I have partials. I have some mild bone loss that seems to be more the result of an inability to properly absorbe nutients from long standing Celiac and autoimmune disease. Once I finally learned my Vit D (among others) level was so low it was corrected with mega doses and my bone density has improved. In the meantime though I did lose a few teeth to the war. Dispite all this the bone in my jaw is supposedly good. Is it possible that implants might be a better option for me than partials -- when it comes to bone retention? I want to do whatever is best for the future of my mouth. Thanks.

Dental Implants - Do They Help Retain Bone Mass?
Implants do help keep bone better than partials or dentures, but I do not know if you would be a good candidate with your autoimmune disorder. Many people with health problems such as diabetes, osteoporosis, smokers, etc. are not candidates b/c of the increased risk of implant failure. The implant is placed in the jaw bone and in people with health problems the body may not heal as well to accept this new implant. However, you could go for a consult to a dentist that does implants or an oral surgeon and find out if your would be a candidate or not.
Reply:I want to get them also...go to this website......http://www.incredibleimplants.com/Contac...

I emailed them and the doctor himself answered me. Contact them.
Reply:Whatever is best are implants, not partials.

Implants are screwed on a metal plate which itself is screwed in the bone.

This might hurt a little.

Vitamin D, Calcium, Potassium, Magnesium, Vitamin C, *FOLATE* will help build and retain bone mass.
Reply:A dental implant will help you keep the bone in your jaw better than just a veneer. The implant goes into your bone and the bone, sensing there is something there, will continue to grow around it and hold onto it better. However, if your body has trouble absorbing nutrients then I'm not really sure how that will affect it. You'll have to talk to your dental surgeon about that.

For those who have gotten Dental implants?

I had 2 root canals and crowns a year ago. Recently, one of them broke off because food somehow got under the crown and caused it to decay and weaken and break off. They cemented it back on for now. I went to see an oral surgeon today for an implant consultation. I chose an implant vs bridge because it last longer and is more real. Bridges affect 2 teeth around it which I don't like. It is expensive and insurance doesn't really pay for the implant part. They may pay for part of the tooth extraction before hand.

Have any of you had implants? How long have you had to wait total from start to finish? I have to wait until the tooth extraction and bone graft heal for 3 months, then get the implant wait 3 or 4 more months, then get the post, then get a crown.

Have any of you that have gotten an implant wish they had not and why? or why do you love it?

Has anyone gotten one and it fail? What happened?

Thanks in advance for your kind answers and information.

For those who have gotten Dental implants?
Implants are the best tooth replacement option in dentistry. Everything that you say sounds accurate. It takes time and $ but is well worth it. I personally have not had implants in my mouth. I am a dentist and I can tell you that all the patients that I have placed implants in feel they made the right choice. So go for it and don't worry too much. Also make sure you follow all the post operative instructions so that you don't develop any complications. Good Luck.
Reply:Good choice. Dental implants have one of the highest success rates of any medical procedure. The usual healing time is 3 months for bone graft and 10-12 weeks for the implant to fuse to the bone.
Reply:I got an implant..It is worth it. The "tooth" is strong and no pain. It was weird for the first few months as it felt like there was no tooth there but the feeling came back.

All in all it was a real easy procedure and well worth it.

Much much easier than a root canal.
Reply:I have not had any implants but I have seen this done in an office that I was observing for school. It is amazing how far dentistry has come in the last 20 years! I think it's a very wise choice and I'm sure you won't regret it. The procedure doesn't seem painful at all....the patient was laughing, smiling, and said she felt no discomfort at all. My class actually had a field trip to a prosthedontist today and we saw slides of some of his cases. You would be astonished by what a difference implants have made and when it's all done...they look just like their natural teeth.
Reply:Thanks for asking this question, I like the answers you got. I am also debating getting an implant. I had a root canal, then infection, then Apico, then infection, cleared up but still having problems. I go to a periodontist for first gum surgery and now every 3 months alternate with dentist and perio for cleanings. The last time I went to perio he did not like the look of the crowned tooth, took an x-ray and said there was bone loss around and advised me to get a bridge or implant. So I went back to my dentist and he refered me to another perio who does implants ( mine does not). The new perio explained it all to me but since I have 70% bone loss in this spot I would need a bone graft and the whole procedure would take about a year. So I am thinking about it all. I was taking Fosamax which is now linked to osteonecrosis of the jaw (dead jaw) where the jaw deteriates, but all my doctors have told me it is really from intravenious Fosamax and for oral Fosamax it is 1% chance of getting it. So I search the internet daily, in the meantime I have a tooth on the opposite side of the bad tooth that has been bothering me, a similiar pain that brought me to the first root canal. So now do I get start the implant process, and later another root canal on the other side and then how do I eat, there is no side left to eat on. Sorry for all this extra info that does not pertain to your question, but from reading your answers it does give me a boost toward getting the implant. Good luck with yours!!
Reply:There are coverages that will help you with the cost of dental implants, for example DentalService4Less. You will save significant percentage of the cost dpending on where you live. Search for oral surgeons or prosthodontists in your area.
